History of C&J Bus

C&J Bus has a rich history that began in 1968 when Joe and Bertha Jalbert established C&J Travel, Inc. Their transportation service initially offered six daily round-trips to Logan Airport, utilizing Checker Aero-Buses and operating out of a small garage in Dover, New Hampshire.

After Joe Jalbert's passing at the age of 54, the company was passed on to three of his sons, with Jim Jalbert taking over its leadership. Under Jim's direction, C&J Bus quickly expanded, purchasing its first full-size motorcoach.

The company experienced significant growth over the years, transitioning from "C&J Trailways" to the present-day "C&J Bus Lines." In 2011, executive class service between Portsmouth, NH, and Midtown Manhattan, New York City, was introduced. Today, C&J provides daily round trips to New York City, with expanded services from Seabrook, NH, and Andover, MA.

C&J Bus has always been at the forefront of innovation, being the first company in the country to operate double-decker buses in a commuter system. The fleet consists of green motorcoaches, and drivers are trained in sustainable transportation practices, earning the company the eRating Certification.

In the modern era, C&J Bus continues to prioritize technology, introducing mobile ticketing and transitioning to full reservation travel, ensuring guaranteed seating for all passengers. The company has received recognition for its efforts, with Jim Jalbert named METRO Magazine’s Innovative Motorcoach Operator of the Year in 2014, and C&J being honored as Portsmouth Chamber’s Business of the Year. With over 100 employees and a fleet of 25 motorcoaches, C&J moves hundreds of thousands of people annually, constantly evolving while never forgetting its humble beginnings in 1968.
